from Mom's garden. no photo editing at all. how gorgeous is that?

I dragged my neighbors out to The Winery at Bull Run on Thursday afternoon for their BBQ. While I was super excited to go, it was probably the hottest day of the year thus far. Miserable, sweltering heat. Luckily, The Winery at Bull Run comfortably fit the entire BBQ crowd in a gorgeous AC filled tasting room. I loved the atmosphere - large overstuffed leather couches and chairs, high top pub tables, and flat screen TVs.

I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, but I mostly enjoyed the wines at the tasting. Well, the wines that I could taste. I was pretty flustered with the fact that there was not even enough wine poured into my glass for me to swish it around or let it sit in my mouth. I had to ask the pourer twice if she could add a little more to my glass. Apparently, they were out of their branded wine glasses, so we were served in unlabeled glasses - and she couldn't tell how much she was giving us because there was no label on the glass. I was less than thrilled with the reasoning or the response. Justin ended up buying a bottle of the 2010 Viognier which was my top pick.
The BBQ was catered by Hill Country BBQ out of DC. It was yummy! But, there were no plates. I asked the woman behind the tasting counter and she simply said "No plates." Clearly, customer services was not her forte.  Luckily (again), there was a really nice lady who gave us a Dixie plate out of her picnic basket to use. I am not sure if they were not expecting so many people or what, but I think this place has a lot to learn about event planning (and customer service). Some of their patrons were using the brown paper wine bags as plates... embarassing.
They have only been open for a few weeks, but this winery has the potential to be a great establishment in VA Wine Country... However, there is work to be done. I will definitely give them another chance once they have some time to work out all the kinks.
