Last night, we had a chance to see the opening night performance of the Ringling Bros Barnum and Bailey Circus presents Legends at the Patriot Center in Fairfax. This actually was one of the best performances that I've seen - so much action and excitement packed into the night. There are certain acts we always look forward to - and B's favorite is the Torres Family and their motorcycle stunts. I personally loved Alexander Lacey with his amazing lions and tigers. Check out the pics below!
Tickets are still available as the show runs through April 19th. All seats are reserved. Tickets can be purchased at all Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 800-745-3000, via www.ticketmaster.com, and the Patriot Center box office. For group rates and information, call 202-661-5061.

guest post by my awesome neighbor Stephen
When I received an invitation to see the new “Cinderella” movie, I was wondering if I would be bored having recently seen the movie “Into the Woods” which features “Cinderella” as one of its storylines. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Having grown up on a steady diet of testosterone-fueled, explosion-filled action movies, I can honestly say that I never considered myself a big fan of Disney Princess movies but I am enjoying Disney’s recent efforts to relaunch their animated classics, which although timeless, can seem a little dated and definitely in need of refurbishing. That is where Disney is now succeeding. I don’t think discussing the plot of “Cinderella” will spoil anything for the reader, but the central theme of this new movie is to “Be kind and have courage” instead of suggesting that young girls serve as doormats and that someday Prince Charming will come knocking on the door to save them from their basement dwelling where they wallow in self-pity watching "Sex In The City" reruns. Don’t get me wrong, this movie is still set hundreds of years ago and Cinderella doesn’t take to social media to complain about her “evil” stepmother and stepsisters. That said, this new Cinderella has a little more backbone and the relationship between her and the prince is established in more realistic terms and not just “love at first sight” at a royal ball. And yes, I do note the certain irony that appears when I mention “realistic” in relation to a movie involving fairy godmothers, vegetable vehicles, magically disappearing garments (but not footwear), and talking mice. Speaking of “talking mice”, I did miss the classic “Cinderelly, Cinderelly” song sung by Gus from the animated version. But other than that, the film stands on its own and is expertly directed by Kenneth Branagh known for directing movies involving royalty such as “Hamlet” and “Thor”. I definitely recommend this movie for the whole family. Be sure to make it in time to watch the new “Frozen” animated short ("Frozen Fever") that appears before the feature film—the kids will dig it and if you miss it, I don’t think that they’ll be able to “Let it go”. < insert sound of crickets chirping here after bad joke>
Short Spoiler Free Play Review by my awesome neighbor Stephen
I’ve had numerous opportunities to attend a theater for purposes of writing a review but this was the first live performance (non-movie) and so I leapt at the chance to see “Shear Madness” the other week at the Kennedy Center. Not only did it sound like a fun show but who can turn down an opportunity to see something at the Kennedy Center especially a play that holds the Guinness world record for the longest-running play in America and has been seen by millions of people? With 27 years running at the Kennedy Center the play isn’t going anywhere but you should go, to the play, and here’s why. The show is in the Kennedy Center’s “Theater Lab” which is set up and optimized so that there really isn’t a bad seat in the house with acoustics that facilitate the audience participation parts. The show was like watching a live version of “Clue” or attending a “Murder Mystery Dinner Party” minus the dinner. Side note: Delicious culinary fare is available for purchase on the roof top level of the center. Be sure to get to the show in time because the music starts playing and the antics get going early.
One of the great things about the show is that the actors are all very quick on their feet. The play is littered with up-to-the-minute pop culture and current event references such as references to Neil Patrick Harris in his tighty whities, Obamacare, and the legalization of marijuana in the district. There is a Q&A session during intermission where you have the opportunity to interact and interrogate the actors who remain in character expertly. The play does contain some stereotypical characters such as the macho main detective, effeminate male barber, and voluptuous female stylist. Speaking of characters, there were quite a few in the audience as well including a blonde guy in a fur vest that looked like he wandered off the set of “Zoolander”. But I digress. In keeping with my “spoiler free” motto, I won’t reveal too much about the story behind this whodunit, but the genius of the show is that even if I told you, it wouldn’t make a difference because (like snowflakes) each and every show is different. I can see why this play has been running for as long as it has because Shear Madness was a shear joy.
Performances for Shear Madness are Tuesday through Friday evenings at 8:00 p.m., Saturdays at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., and Sundays at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $50 and are on sale now through the Kennedy Center website, in-person at the Kennedy Center box office, or by calling 202.467.4600.

Sometimes I wake up and I think "is this really my life?" Miller and Smith is one of the most premiere home builders in the DC area - and they connected with me to throw a VIP happy in Brambleton for my friends in one of their gorgeous homes! I absolutely jumped on that invite and rounded up some girlfriends to hang out on Friday night before we went out for Valentine's Day.
We met up in the Brambleton Skyview model - which was quite impressive. I was ready to sign on the dotted line and purchase within 10 minutes of entering the property. I loved the open floor plans, top chef kitchens perfect for gathering friends and entertaining, gorgeous fireplaces, and a year-round covered deck. In the great room, there is a "wall of glass" that offers an unobstructed view to the outdoors. Really really fell in love with this home - and it totally slipped my mind that I was in a 3400 sqft townhome, not a single family!
When I said I was ready to sign on the dotted line... I mean really really I could have done it. Right now, Miller and Smith is offering a "THINK ZERO" promotion for homebuyers: Zero Down, Zero Closing Costs, Zero Reasons to Wait! Plus, "Freemium" upgrades and only $2500 cash moves you in. Pretty sweet deal!
You can check out more photos of the Miller and Smith Brambleton homes and watch a video of the home tour on their website.
*special thanks to Miller and Smith for inviting us to host the event and providing sponsored content.
